Biography

Zhengwei is a Partner in DaHui Lawyers’ compliance and crisis management practice groups. His practice mainly focuses on compliance and investigations, cybersecurity, complex commercial litigation and arbitration, and employment matters. Zhengwei has profound experience in various business sectors, including life sciences, manufacturing, technology, sports and entertainment, and real estate. Zhengwei is recognized by clients for his strategic thinking and quality of service.

Before joining DaHui Lawyers, Zhengwei worked at Baker & McKenzie Fenxun, and previously at other leading law firms.

Notable Representations

  • Represented a China-listed technology company with worldwide operations in a series of high-stakes, cross-border negotiations with local public procurators and several major global business partners for resolving contentious commercial disputes, in independent investigations of allegations of trade secret theft, commercial bribery and violations of export-control regulations, in compliance audits and in handling issues of competition laws, anticorruption laws, trade secrets laws, seizures of company property, employee discipline and termination, compliance review and remedial measures, and responses to government dawn raids and investigations
  • Handled bribery incidents of a U.S.-listed technology company’s sales teams and business partners in connection with several large contracts valued at tens of millions of Renminbi and involving a number of prominent public sector end users, and advised the client on compliance remediation for a key business partner
  • Handled allegations of manipulation of sales accounting procedures, non-compliant interactions and testing methodology and results manipulations involving local officials for a U.S.-listed global medical device manufacturer
  • Conducted an investigation against a series of non-compliant activities of a global leading electric appliance manufacturer’s offline sales business in China, with the investigation covering over 800 stores throughout all regions in China, implicating employees from frontline sales to top management members, as well as business partners
  • Conducted investigations of several U.S.-listed pharmaceutical companies’ local subsidiaries and determined that there were a host of local, FCPA and UK Bribery Act violations in connection with a key distributor whose employees defrauded the companies in several multimillion-dollar transactions with important public sector end users
  • Provided full-range regulatory and compliance advice to multinational companies in relation to operating in China, including drafting China-specific compliance policies as a part of global policy reviews, third-party due diligence processes and documentation, and compliance risk management with respect to distribution channels, and drafted distribution agreement templates
  • Handled a number of disputes between shareholders and ex-legal representatives wrestling for company control and jus fruendi; and advised both sides of hotel management companies and real estate owners with tailored action plans and roadmaps for disputes from daily operations
  • Represented multinational construction businesses in several construction disputes before CIETAC and followed up with enforcement proceedings
  • Represented multinational businesses to seek recognition and enforcement of overseas arbitral awards and judgments in China
  • Represented Chinese enterprises to apply for recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards rendered in CIETAC arbitration proceedings
  • Represented multinational apparel corporations, pharmaceutical companies and worldwide engineered material manufacturers in their anti-counterfeiting activities, trade secret protection and other intellectual property–related legal matters in China
  • Advised multinational companies on a wide range of labor and employment matters involving hiring and termination, formulation and implementation of company policies, leave and compensation matters, workplace data and privacy protection
